What’s Kilowatt Crackdown?
Kilowatt Crackdown is the premier commercial building energy competition. Its goal is to help you use less energy, reduce operating costs, and reward you for doing so. It’s a great way to raise energy awareness and increase metro ‐wide building performance while also enhancing the bottom line. Kilowatt Crackdown will help you track your energy use over time, identify and act on ways to save energy, measure your progress and earn recognition for your success through prizes and public announcements.

What Do I Get If I Enter?
Besides for a chance at receiving fame and glory, qualifying contestants get the following complimentary services:
o Recognition on the BOMA Website o Complimentary Energy Audit from TECO or Duke Energy
o “Energy Coach” to help you develop energy saving initiatives.
o ENERGY STAR training, technical support, and data review.
o Advice on best practices to reduce energy use and operating costs.
o Satisfaction from being a leader in energy efficiency in Tampa Bay.

Every contestant gets the opportunity to attend a free hands‐on workshop on benchmarking your building’s energy performance with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. We’ll help you create an account in Portfolio Manager and begin rating your building’s energy performance. You’ll also get individual guidance from an experienced benchmarking experts and technical assistants.

With all this complimentary consulting, assistance, and technical support how can you lose? Your gain in energy efficiency will also give you a competitive advantage in the marketplace by elevating your profile, improving tenant satisfaction, and strengthening your leadership position in the community.

How Does the Competition Work?
The contest takes place from September 2015 — September 2016. Once you sign up you begin benchmarking your building’s energy performance through ENERGY STAR’s Portfolio Manager. We’ll supply training and technical resources to help your team identify strategies to reduce energy use and start to save money. You’ll also get an Energy Coach who will keep you on track to reach your goals throughout the competition. Buildings are assigned to one of two competition tracks based on your size, capabilities, and other criteria. You will need to share your ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager account with BOMA Grater Tampa Bay (see note below) and keep a list of your energy improvements.

At the end of the competition, performance levels will be assessed using ENERGY STAR’s Portfolio Manager Statement of Energy Performance. TECO Energy will judge the competition and identify the highest performing buildings and those with the greatest improvement. There are multiple prizes for each track, as well as a grand prize and special bonuses.

NOTE: For those buildings which are unable to share their buildings Portfolio Manager account due to company or corporate restrictions, you may still participate by providing a complete copy of your Statement of Energy Performance for the 12 month contest duration and your list of energy improvements.

What’s the Whole Purpose?
The contest exists to help community‐wide building's benchmark energy performance, analyze data, develop action plans, and implement strategies that save energy and reduce operating costs.

Who Benefits From It?
Besides your pocketbook and mother earth, the entire Tampa Bay Region benefits from Kilowatt Crackdown. We expect to deliver significant energy savings in 2015 and beyond. We also want to establish energy benchmarking as a standard market practice for all qualified buildings in the Tampa Bay area. When energy consumption is reduced, everyone in the region will benefit from lower carbon emissions and cleaner, healthier air.

What’s the Entry Fee?
There is no entry fee to participate; however, you will need to budget an hour or two each month and expenses for planning and implementing your energy saving initiatives.

What Else Should I Know?
Be assured that your company and building energy data will remain confidential and only be used for the purpose of this competition. At the conclusion of the competition you may un‐share your Portfolio Manager account with BOMA GTB. Winners will be announced at the 2016 TOBY’s.
