BOMA GTB News: February 2018 Print

President's Message

It’s only month #2 and already so many things have happened! We have had two official winters in Florida (and I really hope we are done with those), an extremely successful Winter Business Meeting in Washington D.C. and the Eagles beat the Patriots! (Sorry all you Patriot fans, but it’s about time!) February is looking to be just as busy with Tally Day on February 13th, the BOMI Budgeting and Accounting Class February 21st -23rd, and our luncheon on the 28th with the new Hillsborough County Sheriff, Chad Chronister.

On January 31st, myself, Denise Rue, Jose Hernandez, and Carla Markowitz headed to Capital Hill for extremely informative visits with Congressmen Dennis Ross, Charlie Crist, Gus Bilirakis and Congresswoman Kathy Castor. Here, we discussed the importance of an ADA Notice and Compliance period, safeguarding Energy Star, and increasing the support and federal investment in our nation’s infrastructure and the effect these have on commercial real estate. All offices were extremely responsive, and in fact, Bilirakis’ office has reached back out to inform us that the House budget does, in fact, include the continued support of the Energy Star program. BOMA continues to be an influence on the Hill and we are doing our part to increase the knowledge.

Additionally, the four of us, plus Past President, Sandy Ballestra, participated in several committee meetings including the Government Affairs where we listened to several other associations across the nation discuss different issues they are facing within their own cities and how it may affect others.

All in all, a very informative conference and geared us up for our upcoming Tally Day, Tuesday, February 13th. This is a chance for BOMA Greater Tampa Bay to meet with our local representatives. Please be sure to sign up and join us as we represent BOMA and commercial real estate in the Tampa Bay area.

Be sure to visit our website and take advantage of all that BOMA GTB is doing! Also, don’t forget to sign up for a scholarship towards a BOMI class. We are here to help you reach your potential! And this week is that all important Valentine’s Day, so don’t say you haven’t been warned!

Sara Wayson, CPM®, RPA®, CSM® - BOMA GTB President
