Building Sciences - Understanding the building envelope and how it relates to existing operations and maintenance.

Our October Sustainability Meeting will feature guest speaker Dany Romero P.E. from NOVA

Topic:  The presentation provides a brief summary of the definition and performance objectives of the Building Envelope. We give examples of typical issues that arise during new construction and how addressing them during the design phase can lead to significant savings. Case studies during forensic investigations will show common maintenance issues to look out for in existing buildings that can affect building performance and efficiency. The course is AIA approved so if any Architects are planning on attending, please let us know so we can provide you with a 1 hour continuing education certificate.

Speaker Bio: Dany Romero is the service line leader for NOVA Engineering’s Private Provider, Facilities and Building Enclosure Services in Central Florida. Mr. Romero serves as the qualifier for NOVA’s Private Provider 3rd party Building Code inspection services.  His focus at NOVA includes forensic investigation of roofing and cladding components as well as property condition assessments for all types of construction and existing buildings. These investigations include the use of specialized equipment such as water spray nozzle arrays, building pressurization fans and infrared cameras. Mr. Romero has worked closely with government entities, private owners and non-profit organizations during consulting and testing efforts. As part of the Florida Coastal Monitoring Program, Mr. Romero was involved in numerous investigations evaluating water ingress, windborne debris impact and mechanical failure of roofing components during extreme wind events such as named hurricanes and tropical storms.
