BOMA GTB News: January 2017 Print

President's Message

Happy New Year! As you make resolutions for the new year, please resolve to be active on one of our BOMA Greater Tampa Bay committees to help our organization attain new heights in 2017. There’s a committee for everyone and at our January membership luncheon on the 25th we’ll have the Chairs of each committee explain the committee’s purpose, goals for the year and opportunities for volunteer involvement.

Another great volunteer opportunity is the experience of personally lobbying our state congressional leaders by attending Advocacy Day in Tallahassee on Tuesday, February 21st. Our primary issue again this year is repealing sales tax on real estate leases and no longer being the only state in the union to tax leases. Several bills have been presented repealing the tax in the past and last year, Governor Scott supported the gradual appeal in his budget plan. We hope to gain further traction on the issue in 2017 and need your help to make our case in Tallahassee. Our Government Affairs Committee will be coordinating our trip to Tally and a training session to hone our lobbying skills. Watch for the schedule.

Several of our association leaders will be traveling to San Diego to BOMA International’s Winter Business Meeting at the end of the month to reconnect with our counterparts across the country and focus on the 2017 priorities for BOMA International. We’ll report back on new initiatives and progress made on those already underway.

Thank you to all of you who have renewed your membership for 2017 already and just a reminder to those that haven’t that Membership Dues must be received by February 29th to remain an active member of our chapter. As a reminder, any Allied Member whose payment is not received by this date will be put on the waiting list in accordance with our balanced membership policy. To confirm your dues payment has been properly credited, please go to the “Member Area” of the web site (upper right of home page) and choose “View my Order History”. If you have any membership dues-related questions, please contact BOMA GTB’s Member Services Coordinator, Krystal Ferm, at or (813) 443-5595 extension 3.

As we venture into 2017, let the words of Albert Einstein guide us: “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.”
